Dear Professor Anderson,
In this letter, I will talk about the three major essays assigned to me. I will also describe the mistakes and corrections of the three essays in the portfolio. The reviews of the essays and the strengths and weaknesses will be shown in this letter. The three essay topics are Narrative, Descriptive, Compare and Contrast. The topics describe the type of essay and the required information needed in the essay.
The first essay is the narrative essay. The title of the essay is “ How I Became Drumline Captain My Senior Year.” In this essay, I presented the essay from my point of view and described what I did to get to my goal. I chose this topic because it was an important time in my life and it is not usual anyone talks about being in the drumline. I explained how I became drumline captain. I describe the work effort, practice and examples of being in the drumline.
After rereading the essay, I saw places that I could have added more information. I know this essay could be improved in two areas. The two areas are the amount of information provided and the depth of the information. I talked more about the struggles I had to go through to be drumline captain. I could have described my learning experiences in my years on the drumline more and added more emotion with the words.
The second essay is a descriptive essay. The title of the essay is “ Walt Disney World.” In this essay, I talked about the world famous Walt Disney World and described the legendary theme parks with great details. I chose Walt Disney World because I have been there three times and I went this past march with my high school marching band. I described all four theme parks and the five senses: touching, smelling, tasting, hearing and seeing. The four theme parks are Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot. After rereading the essay, I believe that there are places that I could have added more information. There are three places that I should describe more and they are touching, hearing and smelling. I should have talked more about my personal experiences at Walt Disney World.
The third essay is Compare and Contrast. The title is “High School and College Marching Bands.” I picked this topic because many people do not realize the differences and similarities between high school and college marching bands. In this essay, I described the similarities and differences of both college and high school. I could have added deeper similarities and differences in this essay to make it better .
I put in a lot of hard work, time and effort into this portfolio and I did the best that I could do. There are parts that I wish could be better, but overall I am satisfied with my portfolio. This portfolio helps me realize that writing is a way of expressing your feelings, thoughts and experiences to people. This is a fun project and I really enjoyed doing this. I now realize the significance of writing.
Sincerely, Jarred A. Brock
